Fully restored mahogany Steinway M with excellent original soundboard.  Includes matching bench.

Purchased second hand in NJ or NY in the 1940’s by my grandparents.  The piano was used in their family home until I received it in 1999 and moved it to San Diego. Restoration was completed in Jan2016 by Abel Sanchez at The Piano Place in San Diego.

The Piano Place closed in 2022, but you can find information about them in the following reviews from prior to their closure:

Appraisal prior to restoration:

Serial number 246326 on the key frame indicates year of manufacture as 1926. The felts under the keys appear original and are hard with age and needing replacing. The key tops were replaced at one time with plastic which is common. A few of the agraffs that terminate the strings at the front of the plate have failed. Likely because of over tightening in a previous rebuild. Best to replace all of these. The plate will be repainted, the sound board refinished with a Steinway Decal.  All hardware polished or re-plated as necessary in the restoration. All new strings will be installed.

The soundboard which is the heart of the piano appears in excellent condition producing long sustain with good bearing running the length of the bridges. The bridges are in ok shape and could be used as is. However, I recommend re-capping them for the greatest longevity for the life of the instrument. If you look close at the bridges there are many hair-line cracks that are appearing.

The pin block has original #2 pins in the treble strings and #3 pins in the bass indicating new bass strings installed at one time. The block could be used again but I really recommend replacement.

The finish is in fair condition. The pores of the grain are showing through the finish indicating inadequate lacquer applied on a previous refinish.
